The National World Toilet Day celebration for Kenya will be held on 17 November 2017 in Nakuru County. The National key message is “Safely dispose of baby’s faeces to help prevent disease and promote child growth.” It emphasizes the importance of having and properly using toilets to safely dispose of faeces to prevent exposure to germs, which if ingested may have devastating consequences.
In Kenya, 30 per cent of child faeces is unsafely disposed of in the open, rinsed into an open drain, buried and thrown out with normal garbage. The National WTD 2017 celebration will bring awareness on how harmful baby faeces are and should be disposed of safely in a toilet.

The venue of celebrations is Highway Primary School, which is located in Naivasha Sub County, Nakuru County.

The Ministry of Health Government of Kenya, the County Government of Nakuru, Sector partners including UNICEF, Amref Health Africa, Water and Sanitation for the Urban Poor (WSUP), SNV, and Naivasha community with the estimated turnout likely to be 1,500 people.

The celebration will be presided upon by the Nakuru County Governor, His Excellency Lee Kinyanjui. Some of the activities will include procession lead by a band, edutainment by schoolchildren on toilet awareness, exhibitions of sanitation products, tree planting, County and National level dignitaries’ speeches.

The celebration is implemented by the National Ministry of Health, County Government of Nakuru, Sector Partners and Naivasha Community.

The celebrations are supported by the National Ministry of Health Government of Kenya, County Government of Nakuru, UNICEF, Amref, European Union, Global Sanitation Fund, and WSUP.
