World Toilet Day Celebration (led by UNICEF and Department of Health)
On 19 November 2019, the Department of Health (DOH), UNICEF, and the Manila Local Government Unit will celebrate the World Toilet Day in Baseco, Tondo, Manila, with the theme “Toilets for All: Leaving No One Behind”. The event would be attended by 600 people, composed of government officials, development partners, community members, and media. During the event, DOH will launch two policies about improving sanitation in the country, namely: Implementation Guidelines on the Philippine Approach to Sustainable Sanitation and the National Standards on the Design, Construction, Operation and Maintenance of Septic Tank Systems. It will also highlight the importance of using a toilet as well as the practice of handwashing with soap after using the toilet and before eating. Practices that help prevent the transmission of polio (with has recently recurred in the country) and other diseases. In addition, DOH and UNICEF will also award the best animation videos for the “Goodbye, Dumi! Hello Healthy!” contest, which launched by DOH and UNICEF.
