WASH debate: Leveraging household investments

WASH debates, hosted by IRC, provide an informal platform for Dutch organizations and professionals working in the international water sector to connect and to discuss the latest developments and trends in the sector.

The upcoming debate will focus on experiences in scaling market-based approaches in water and sanitation. How are market-based approaches performing as models to extend services in both water and sanitation? And how are they supported or undermined by governments and their policies, both nationally and internationally?

The debate will focus on answering the following questions:

  1. How important are household investments to achieving SDG 6.2 and 6.1 and how can market-based approaches help tap this investment?
  2. What lessons have been learnt from the strategies to grow markets in the various projects and programmes that the Government of the Netherlands and partners are executing?
  3. What are the implications for the Dutch-supported water, sanitation and hygiene programmes in the decade to come?
